Thats it. I just made my final payment to Camp MMW. It’s time to start preparing for the experience. There is just over 7 weeks left until camp kicks off and I have much to do to get ready. First off, I have been writing a lot more than I have been playing bass in 2011 and I know that my fingers are not in good enough shape to stand up to five straight days of playing music. It’s time to get my bass playing into a much more consistent practice routine. I need to get back the flexibility and strength in my fingers as well as re-acquire the calluses on my fingertips. Only way to do this is to practice and play, practice and play.
I also need to start reviewing my notes and experiences from Camp MMW 2009. I’m not quite sure where I placed my notebook, but that is something I need to study. I received such a wealth of information that week that I’m sure there is a lot that I have either forgotten or that I never truly absorbed in the first place. The lessons learned at camp are so rich and plentiful that they seem overwhelming in the days and weeks that follow the final day of camp. It’s only when you go back and search through your notes and listen to the recordings that certain things begin to reignite your creative process once the shock of it all wears away. When you review your experiences from camp, you always seem to learn or relearn something you have missed or forgotten. In that sense, Camp MMW is truly the gift that keeps on giving.
Now, I’m going to make an effort to practice at least 30 minutes a day for the next 7 weeks. I will honestly update my progress as I continue this blog and if you find that I am falling behind on my goals of getting ready for camp, I openly encourage you to ridicule and berate me for not practicing enough.
So with that, I’m off to get my fingers in shape and do some practicing!
Later tonight MMW is playing a free show in Central Park with:
JOSH ROSEMAN & THE KING FROOPY ALLSTARS / JIM BLACK’S ALASNOAXIS
I will be there and will do a little review of the show as well as post some photos in my next blog post!
